IPv4 Proxy
An IPv4 proxy is an IP address assigned to a datacenter or residential device that uses Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4). V4 stands for the fourth version of the protocol; the first three were used for testing purposes.
The address consists of four parts, each separated by a dot. It looks like this: 123.456.78.90. Each part includes numbers that range from 0 to 255.
How Does IPv4 Proxy Work?
When you send a request to the target website, IPv4 proxy masks your address with its own. Your original IP is hidden, and the website can’t link back to you, making way to bypass various restrictions. IPv4 proxies are used for web scraping, accessing geo-restricted content or managing multiple accounts.
Limitations of IPv4 Proxies
IPv4 proxies face challenges like high demand because of the limited number of available addresses. There are approximately 4.3 billion unique IP addresses, and since mostly everything today is connected to the internet, there aren’t enough combinations for them all. This has led to the creation of IPv6 proxies which offer more address combinations. Still, IPv4 proxies remain more used because they are compatible with most networks and devices.
