Oxylabs and Luminati are the biggest players in the game of proxies. They are great rivals that been competing with each other for a while now, and neither of them is backing down. Both have advantages over the other, but the most important question is – which one is an overall better proxy provider?
Oxylabs vs Luminati: A Side-by-Side Feature Comparison
Oxylabs 9.3 vs. Luminati 8.5
|Pool size||30M residential IPs||35M residential IPs|
|Authorization method||Credentials and whitelisted IPs||Credentials and whitelisted IPs|
|Number of users||Unlimited||Depends|
|Protocols||HTTP, HTTPS||HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS5|
As you can see in the table, Luminati has a bigger proxy pool, however, both being in the 30M+ mark, Oxylabs is quickly catching up with these numbers.
Luminati lists that they have 223 countries, but that number seems questionable, as there are 195 countries registered by the United Nations. There are some regions that may or may not be considered countries, but that is a big claim for Luminati.
Oxylabs has an unlimited number of users, whereas Luminati has a more complicated system. You can create zones with them, and creating zones (plans) serves the same purpose as sub-users because you get a different part for your username (username-zone_name) and a separate traffic count.
When it comes to protocols, Luminati has SOCKS5, whereas Oxylabs doesn’t. As for dashboard and support – Luminati wins here for sure. We were really pleased with it. We have heard that they have a really great dashboard but having checked it out ourselves we can guarantee you it was a pleasant experience and overall, a really helpful and put together dashboard out there. When it comes to their support, in our full Luminati review we do mention that even though their live chat is great, their ticket system response time takes up to 5 hours.
The overall rating falls to 9.3 for oxylabs and 8.5 to Luminati – why so? You can check out our Oxylabs full review for more clarification on our site, but for now, let’s check out more statistics.

Luminati reaches Oxylabs in most cases but really flops out with Google and Yandex. Google requests are higher than other proxy provider average but don’t beat Oxylabs’ high numbers. And when it comes to Yandex, it really underperforms, as it doesn’t even reach the overall average by more than 10%.
Performance by Concurrent Connections
During the concurrent connection test, we gradually increased the number of concurrent connections and put the proxies on a huge load. You can find the full Oxylabs and Luminati concurrent connection tables at their full reviews, but here you can clearly see that Oxylabs does a slightly better job than Luminati. Oxylabs residential proxies performed really well with an average success rate of 84%.
|Oxylabs||Luminati||Other Proxy Providers|
|Avg. response time||4.58 s||9.05 s||7.78 s|

When it comes to pricing plans, Oxylabs has really clear and to the point plans where you can see what you will get for a certain sum. Luminati has a lot messier pricing plan, where you need to choose from different plans by country and by plan depending on the amount of data you require. And the biggest drawback? The cheapest plan costs $500 a month. That’s steep.
