Smartproxy, the provider of proxies and web scraping tools, has rebranded. From now on, it will be called Decodo.

According to the provider, this rebrand aims to better align with shifting customer needs:

The transition to Decodo represents the next phase of our journey, evolving in response to the dynamic needs of our customers. This transformation naturally introduced a brand identity that reflects our forward-thinking approach.

The changes involve a new logo, the blocky geometry of which draws from hacker culture, as well as updated visual branding revolving around white, black, and violet.

In addition, Decodo has repackaged its web scraping APIs into one all encompassing tool. A single subscription will now grant access to both the general-purpose and specialized scraping endpoints.

Decodo’s CEO believes that the rebrand encompasses more than just a logo:

Our evolution into Decodo is more than just a name change – it’s a commitment to our customers. We’re doubling down on innovation, making web data extraction smoother, smarter, and more accessible than ever before.

To celebrate its rebranding, Decodo is offering a 30% discount with the code DECODO30.

Smartproxy, the international provider of proxies and web scraping infrastructure, has released an e-commerce maturity index.

The report compares the user experience of e-commerce stores across 40 countries in five continents. In particular, it considers the following areas:

  1. Browsing – the ease of finding products.
  2. Reviewing – the ability to learn about a product, compare it with others, and find reviews.
  3. Investigating – the background information on products.
  4. Expanding – additional services, financing options, and bundle deals.
  5. Decisions – the ability to select various delivery options, set alerts, and get information about return policies.

Smartproxy rates and categorizes the countries by their level of maturity and strongest points.

The report also includes a dynamic pricing index, which shows how widely e-commerce websites adopt variable pricing strategies.

This evaluation is based on more than 245,000 data points drawn by continuously monitoring 12 products on each of 120 e-commerce stores (three per country).

With a quick one-two, the provider exerts even more pressure on the competition.

Adam Dubois

Smartproxy, the international provider of proxies and web scraping infrastructure, has made two major updates in a week. The first involves a new format for the ISP proxy product. The second reviews mobile proxy rates, reducing them by up to 60%.

New Product: Shared ISP Proxies

In addition to pool-based ISP proxies and dedicated lists, Smartproxy is introducing another format – shared ISP proxies.

The product allows buying lists of ISP proxy servers that are shared among several users. Here are its main technical specifications:

  • The US, UK, and France as available locations. Most of the IPs are in the US.
  • Sprint, Frontier, GTT & other ISPs. Smartproxy distributes the proxies automatically.
  • HTTP(S) protocol support.
  • Ability to rotate IPs use the same session as long as needed.
  • Unlimited threads.
  • Up to unlimited traffic.

The main pricing format is pay per IP, but like with its shared datacenter proxies, Smartproxy also charges for traffic expenditure. Each plan gets 50 GB by default, with options to choose 100 GB, 300 GB, 1 TB, or unlimited traffic for an extra fee.

smartproxy isp/ip dash
You can choose the amount of IPs and traffic you need.

The prices are extremely affordable with the basic configuration ($0.5/IP or less). However, opting for unmetered traffic triples and sometimes quadruples the plan’s cost. Even then, the rates remain competitive with the broader market.

The shared ISP proxies are already available for purchase.

Mobile Proxy Price Cut

Smartproxy has also made changes to its existing mobile proxy product. Its rates have experienced significant price cuts, making the service up to 60% cheaper.

 New price/GBOld price/GBDifference
1 GB$8$20-60%
2 GB$7.5$15-50%
8 GB$7$8.5-12%
25 GB$6.5$8-19%
50 GB$6$7.5-20%
100 GB$5.5$7-21.5%

The change makes Smartproxy more affordable than most enterprise and mid-market competitors:

Smartproxy, the international provider of proxies and web scraping tools, has reduced the rates of its residential proxy network. It’s also introduced two new enterprise plans.

The price reduction affects all packages and varies between 12% and 25%. What’s interesting is that the changes are more pronounced at 250 GB and up – usually, it’s the entry plans that see the biggest cuts.

Furthermore, Smartproxy has added additional enterprise plans for two and five terabytes of data. This suggests that the provider is looking to attract more large-scale clients, in addition to making its offering more attractive overall.

The updated pricing table looks as follows:

TrafficPriceReduction
1 GB (Pay as you go)$7-18%
2 GB$12 ($6/GB) -15%
8 GB$44 ($5.5/GB) -15%
25 GB$130 ($5.2/GB) -13%
50 GB$245 ($4.9/GB) -12%
100 GB$450 ($4.5/GB) -13%
250 GB$1,000 ($4/GB) -16.5%

2,000 GB (new)$5,600 ($2.8/GB) –
5,000 GB (new)$11,000 ($2.2/GB) –

Compared to other mid-range providers like IPRoyal or SOAX, Smartproxy’s rates are now among the lowest:

This is Smartproxy’s second residential proxy price decrease within a year, the first taking place last May. It prompted a competition with providers like Bright Data, Oxylabs, and SOAX, which reviewed their own rates throughout 2023. Apparently, there’s still more to come.

Smartproxy, the international provider of proxies and web scraping infrastructure, has made its mobile proxies cheaper and more approachable.

First, the provider has introduced an option to pay as you go. It’s now possible to buy a gigabyte of traffic at a flat rate of $21 without subscribing. This traffic remains available for a year.

Second, Smartproxy has cut the prices of its subscription-based plans, making them up to 20% cheaper:

The new proxy service includes web scraping and JavaScript rendering capabilities, charges for traffic use.

Adam Dubois

Smartproxy, the international provider of proxies and web scraping infrastructure, has launched a new product – Site Unblocker.

In a nutshell, it’s a remote web scraper that integrates as a proxy server. The motivation behind the service is to simplify work needed to extract a page’s HTML.

To achieve this, Site Unblocker automatically selects the appropriate proxy type, applies request headers, and otherwise chooses a fingerprint configuration to open webpages without fail. It can also render JavaScript, allowing to forgo headless browser instances.

These measures should let you consistently scrape challenging sites like G2 or Zillow with something as simple as a cURL request.

smartproxy site unblocker scheme
A complex scheme illustrating Site Unblocker’s underpinnings.

Site Unblocker allows targeting all countries in the world with city and coordinate level precision. In addition, it can establish sessions that last up to 10 minutes.

Smartproxy prices Site Unblocker by traffic use. The plans start from $28/month for 2 GB and scale to terabytes of data. The provider stresses that it charges the same for all targets, which is probably a jab at Bright Data’s differentiated pricing by website difficulty.

Traffic2 GB8 GB25 GB50 GB100 GB250 GB500 GB1,000 GB

Price/GB$14/GB$12.5/GB$11/GB$10/GB$9/GB$8/GB$7/GB$6/GB

Site Unblocker joins the ranks of an expanding category of proxy networks that could be called proxy APIs. Zyte (then Scrapinghub) was one of the first to launch a similar service, and now they’re available with several major providers like Bright Data and Oxylabs.

Site Unblocker is already available for purchase with a 3-day money-back option.

The provider now sells all major proxy server types.
Adam Dubois
Smartproxy, the international provider of web scraping infrastructure, has launched rotating ISP proxies. It has also enabled HTTPS and SOCKS5 for the residential and mobile proxy services.

ISP Proxies

Smartproxy’s ISP proxy service comes in the form of IP pool. You can buy access to over 16,000 ISP-registered addresses in the US.

Unlike peer-to-peer residential proxies, these IPs are always online. So while they rotate with every connection request, it’s possible to create static sessions that don’t expire. This way, you can effectively control a large number of shared ISP addresses. Currently, the ISP proxies don’t support the SOCKS5 protocol.

Smartproxy prices the product based on traffic use. Its plans start from $28 for 2 GB and scale to terabytes of data. Compared to similar options from NetNut, Oxylabs, or SOAX, the service costs significantly less at the lower end but falls off after 500+ GB of data.

Smartproxy’s rotating ISP proxies are already available for purchase.

HTTPS Entry, SOCKS5 for Residential and Mobile Products

In addition to the new release, Smartproxy has enabled more connection protocols for its residential and mobile proxies. First, Smartproxy’s customers can now reach the provider’s endpoints using the HTTPS protocol. This will have little impact for regular users but may make a difference for enterprise clients with strict compliance requirements. Second, Smartproxy has enabled SOCKS5 for its residential and mobile proxy networks. The current iteration doesn’t support UDP, making it pretty limited. Nonetheless, the sheer ability to connect via SOCKS5 indicates that the company may flesh out this functionality in the future. With the addition of SOCKS5, Smartproxy has almost gained feature parity with premium competitors. The residential proxies still lack ASN filtering, but it’s a niche option for most.

All May, the provider’s proxies will cost up to 35% less.
Adam Dubois

Smartproxy, the international provider of web scraping infrastructure, has announced a temporary reduction of its residential proxy prices.

The rates have gone down by 10-35%, affecting entry plans the most and reaching into the enterprise territory.

Smartproxy has also introduced a new plan called Nano. With 2 GB of data, it bridges the provider’s pay-as-you-go option and the formerly cheapest 8 GB Micro plan.

Here’s how the before and after prices compare:

 PAYG (1 GB)Nano (2 GB)Micro (8 GB)Starter (25 GB)Regular (50 GB)Advanced (100 GB)Premium (250 GB)Professional (50 GB)
Old price/GB$12.5$11$10$9$8$7$6$5
New price/GB$8.5$7$6.5$6$5.6$5.2$4.8$4.4
Difference-30%-35%-35%-30%-30%-25%-20%-10%

The new pricing applies both to first-time and recurring purchases made throughout May. Once claimed, the rates will apply for a year.

With these changes, Smartproxy shows that it’s willing to aggressively fight for lower market segments where the competition has increased thanks to providers like IPRoyal and Webshare. This isn’t the company’s first attempt to move downmarket – in December, it introduced a new low-cost datacenter proxy product.

In one bold and one expected move, the provider further solidifies its data collection infrastructure.

Adam Dubois
Smartproxy, the provider of proxy servers and data collection infrastructure, has introduced two new additions to its product line-up: a mobile proxy network and a specialized social media scraping API. Both are already available for purchase.

Mobile Proxies

The first product, mobile proxies, comprises a network of 10 million IPs connected to 3G, 4G, and 5G networks of mobile carriers. Unlike most similar services that are based on device farms, Smartproxy’s approach involves the smartphones of real people. This makes the service less predictable but much more scalable and not confined to one or several locales.

Smartproxy’s mobile proxy network covers over 130 locations worldwide and 700+ ASNs like Verizon, T-Mobile, and other popular mobile carriers. It offers the ability to specify a particular country and ASN.

The proxy servers rotate with each connection request, with an option to set a sticky session that lasts up to 30 minutes. There are no limits on parallel connection requests and threads, making the service a strong choice for large-scale data collection.

The pricing plans start from $50 for 2 GBs of data, reaching 300 GBs and more for enterprises. $25/GB is a lot compared to other proxy types, but Smartproxy fares well against all major competitors like Bright Data, Oxylabs, and SOAX.

Social Media Scraping API

The second product is a specialized social media scraper. It’s able to extract and structure data from Instagram and TikTok without fail.

The Instagram scraper has endpoints for posts, profiles, reels, and hashtags. You can scrape them using the unofficial GraphQL API, or get parsed data from a fully rendered HTML page. The TikTok scraper can fetch data from profiles and posts.

Similarly to the company’s other scrapers, the API allows specifying the content language and geolocation. At the same time, it’s Smartproxy’s only API with support for asynchronous requests: you can start a scraping job and fetch the output via webhook once it’s finished.

Social Media Scraping API bases its pricing on successful requests. Its subscription-based pricing plans start from $50 and scale to millions of requests for enterprise clients:

 LiteBasicStandardSolidPlusGuru
Price$50$100$280$480$1,100$3,600

/1k requests$2$1.60$1.40$1.20$1.10$0.90

You can try Social Media Scraping API free for 3 days. The trial includes 3,000 requests.

Bottom Line

The addition of mobile proxies is a logical – if somewhat belated (the first hints came over a year ago) – move that further solidifies Smartproxy’s line-up. Supposing the provider maintains its usual level of quality, we can expect a premium product at a great value compared to the other major providers. The release of a social media API, however, is a bold move, especially in light of the recent developments with Meta. If the risk pays off, Smartproxy is well positioned to capture the pent up demand for social media scrapers, as Facebook’s aggressive actions have significantly thinned out direct competition in the space.

Starting from $0.1/IP address, the new service targets price-conscious customers.

Adam Dubois

Smartproxy, the provider of proxies and data collection tools, has launched pay-per-IP pricing plans for its shared datacenter proxies. They’re meant to be a flexible option for budget-conscious customers.

Before, Smartproxy sold full access to its pool of datacenter proxies based on traffic use. From now on, you’ll also have the option to buy a specific number of shared IPs. The new plans start from 100 addresses for $10, which translates to just $0.1/IP. They can scale to 4,000 proxies at an increasing discount.

smartproxy dc/ip plans

Though advertised as pay-per-IP, the plans also charge for traffic use. The base allowance is 50 GBs, with a paid option to increase or even remove the limit altogether.

smartproxy dc/ip traffic

The IP-based proxies come from eight countries in four continents. You’re free to choose their distribution, as long as Smartproxy has enough addresses in stock.

smartproxy dc/ip locations

Just like the traffic-based version, these proxies use the backconnect format: one entry address with different port numbers. Basically, you get a small pool of proxies instead of a regular proxy list.

There’s an option to rotate the IPs on every connection request. Or, you can bind an IP to a port for 30 minutes. I’m not quite sure what happens when the time runs out, and why you can’t simply keep an IP bound to a port indefinitely. But maybe that’s a technical limitation.

Overall, the new plans follow Webshare’s dynamic pricing model, which has found success.  They will further strengthen Smartproxy’s line-up and make it even more accessible for entry-level clients.

The Google scraping API service will bolster Smartproxy’s data collection infrastructure.
Adam Dubois
Smartproxy, the international provider of proxies and web scraping tools, has announced its acquisition of SERPMaster, a Google scraping API. According to Smartproxy’s head of product Germanas Latvaitis, the new acquisition will help the company scale its data collection infrastructure:

Smartproxy has always been customer-obsessed. We see a clear trend that proxies are no longer enough – businesses need complete datasets and ready-made big data gathering tools that could be easily integrated into their existing tech infrastructure. SERPMaster will help us scale our infrastructure and deliver better data services for our users.

SERPMaster was bought together with its user base. The service’s current clients will experience no significant changes. But it’s unclear whether it will remain as a separate brand.

SERPMaster is Smartproxy’s first big acquisition. With it, the provider continues the streak of recent purchases made by major proxy providers. The news also shows that Smartproxy is serious about expanding its services to become a full-fledged web data platform – which seems to be the prevailing trend of 2022.
