There are plenty of reasons why you might want to extract data from Google, but the most common one is probably SEO monitoring. Various agencies and IT companies are building tools that allow them to retrieve SERP and keyword ranking data in an automated way.

However, when you scrape Google for SEO-related data, you’re making a lot of requests to their servers in a short period of time. Like many other sites, Google also limits or bans visitors who submit too many requests from the same IP address.

This behavior is completely normal because Google wants to prevent abuse of their platform. There’s only one catch: if you’re going to use automated software to retrieve data from Google, there’s a big chance that your IP will get banned.

Luckily, we have proxies.

What Are the Best Proxies for Google?

As you probably already know, proxies are one of the best ways to keep your identity hidden. They serve as a buffer between SEO monitoring tools and Google, helping to extract the necessary data without limitations and IP bans.

When using proxies, it’s crucial to get the right proxy provider. To help you decide, we’ve created a brief comparison of the top residential proxy providers below.

However, when it comes to the overall success rate to all targets, Oxylabs is a clear winner with an 84.93% success rate.

Here’s a list of the top ten residential proxy providers along with a brief overview of each, ranked in order of Google success rate:

  1. Smartproxy (73.52%) – Most reliable proxies for Google. Flexibly priced residential proxy service providing more than 10 million rotating IPs.

Blocked Requests, Connection Errors, Timeouts, and Response Speed

Here’s how the providers mentioned above stacked up in different departments:

Connection Errors

Oxylabs8,45%
Luminati residential1.14%*
Luminati mobile1.14%*
Geosurf9,57%
Netnut1,70%
Microleaves48,59%
Rsocks14,51%
Smartproxy9.26%
Storm Proxies7,19%
The Proxy Store25,15%

* Connection error rate to all targets.

Netnut (1.70%) has the lowest percentage of connection errors, followed by Storm Proxies with 7.19% connection error rate.

While comparing all proxy providers, we had a bit of a problem with Luminati. The thing is that more than 68% of their proxies are blocked on Google, so we simply couldn’t use the data on the rest of 32% proxies and had to include Luminati’s overall connection error rate to our comparison table.

Microleaves has the highest percentage of connection errors at 48.59% which is a staggeringly high number, and together with Luminati, we wouldn’t recommend using this proxy provider for Google.

Timeouts

Oxylabs4,75%
Luminati residential12.39%*
Luminati mobile12.39%*
Geosurf3,60%
Netnut14,03%
Microleaves4,36%
Rsocks15,53%
Smartproxy6,23%
Storm Proxies5,82%
The Proxy Store5,63%

* Timeouts to all targets.

Rsocks residential proxies experience the highest percentage of timeouts (15.53%), followed by Netnut (14.03%), making these two some of the slowest providers for scraping.

Geosurf proxies have the lowest percentage of timeouts at 3.60% followed by Microleaves at 4.36%.

Once again, we couldn’t include Luminati to our comparison since so many of their proxies are blocked on Google. We used their overall timeouts rate instead.

Blocked Requests

Oxylabs16,57%
Luminati residential68,06%
Luminati mobile46,50%
Geosurf18,78%
Netnut65,25%
Microleaves11,68%
Rsocks17,03%
Smartproxy10,99%
Storm Proxies78,86%
The Proxy Store8,19%

When it comes to blocked requests, The Proxy Store has the lowest percentage of blocks at 8.19%. Smartproxy is a close second at 10.99%, followed by Microleaves (11.68%), and Oxylabs (16.57%).

Netnut has the highest percentage of blocked requests at 65.25% which essentially means you’ll get a block roughly 3 out of 5 times when using their proxies for scraping. As mentioned before, Luminati is also not doing great with more than 68% of their residential proxies being blocked on Google.

Response Speed

Oxylabs4,25s
Luminati Residential6,82s

Netnut11,69s
Microleaves6,87s
Rscoks9,73s
Smartproxy4,99s
Storm Proxies3,80s
The Proxy Store15,42s

When it comes to Google response speeds, the winner here is Storm Proxies with 3,80s, coming close to the first place are Oxylabs (4,25s) and Smartproxy (4,99s). The worst performing proxies were The Proxy Store (15,42s).

Once again, we couldn’t include Luminati to our comparison since so many of their proxies are blocked on Google. We used their overall response speeds instead.
